Journey ONEderland is a Maine-based, BIPOC-led organization that liberates Afro-Indigenous people on stolen Wabanaki Land (Maine) and beyond by strengthening relationships between people and the earth through healing retreats, art, science, and outdoor recreation.

At the heart of Journey ONEderland’s work is the creation of an earth-based retreat, learning, and arts center for BIPOC communities to heal and flourish together in Maine’s outdoors.

This is a vision born from the love and imagination of Nicole Antonette Mokeme, who joined the beloved ancestors in June, 2022.

Nicole envisioned a place of wildness and magic where Black, Brown and Indigenous people can gather safely to heal and create together with this sacred land. Onderland is the name for this vision: a sensory garden, playscape, and refuge where collective liberation can grow and flourish.

Journey ONEderland is carrying on Nicole’s dream, in partnership with Land in Common. JO will steward the land and build ONEderland, and Land in Common will serve as the long-term holder of the land and as support for the success of its stewards.

We seek land and funding to make this a reality.

Our dream space:

  • A 50-acre parcel of peaceful, wild land, ideally with an elevated location offering a true feeling of safety and vision, with expansive views.
  • Woods, fields, water, and trails
  • Easily accessible from more than one urban center and arts community (max 1hr from Portland and/or Lewiston).
  • Existing infrastructure for housing and programming
