Leadership Council

Our Leadership Council is a group of Black, brown, and Indigenous community leaders who shape Land in Common’s core priorities and trajectory. The group functions much like a board of directors, but stands intentionally outside the traditional nonprofit governance structures in order to hold space for developing the organization differently. Our formal Board of Directors has delegated core decision-making power to this group.

Nicole Chioma Antonette Mokeme ❤️ – Rest in Power!

We honor the life and work of Nicole Chioma Antonette Mokeme, whose joyful, fierce spirit and visionary organizing catalyzed our Leadership Council, and who continues to inspire our collective work for land justice. Nicole was taken from us on Juneteenth weekend, 2022. We hold her in our hearts and we honor her in our actions as we care for each other, work for justice and healing, and reconnect with the land.

Board of Directors

As we transition to a new organizational governance structure, our Board of Directors has formally delegated core decision-making to our Leadership Council. The current Board is composed of a group of dedicated organizers who are committed to holding space for what emerges next.
